PD4104 Dash Tell-Tale Replacement

Our 1956 PD-4104 needed replacement Tell-Tale Indicators on the dash board. The original ones were cracked and hard to read in some areas, and honestly just looked bad. I wanted to make sure the new ones were correctly labeled, durable, and easy to read without the lights being on, and this is how it turned out.

So the original labels were printed onto a frosted plastic sheet that diffused the light behind it. They were easily accessible by removing 8 screws and pulling out the existing plastic sheeting. The next big hurdle was getting the measurements right for designing the new indicators.

This was a massive try and try again effort that eventually led to the new cut out fitting just right. I ended up using a Cricut cutter, for all the labels and black out areas. Those were cut into an adhesive vinyl sticker sheet that would be transferred to the final form.

These also required a rigid frosted plastic to adhere the stickers so, for that i used a ‘make your own stencil’ sheet of plastic. This fit well on the Cricut cutter, and it was able to be cut to the right dimensions.

For the different colors in the indicators, I used colored cellophane wrapping paper. Just to add a little flair to the lights.
